Lower Pierce Sunset

The Sun sets over Lower Pierce Reservoir, Singapore's water catchment.

The Sun itself is behind the roof of the intake structure, and is reflected off the water.

This is a 3exp HDR

Early Morning on Karon Beach - Thailand

The tourists haven't yet taken up position on endless rows of
deckchairs, in this early morining shot of the Andaman Sea from Karon
in Phuket, Thailand.

The sea was still as a mill pond.

Snake Fountain at Karon Beach - Phuket Thailand

This amazingly intricate fountain is right on the beach at Hat Karon.
The fountain wasn't running when we were there, but there were a LOT of
offerings of food etc. sitting in front of him. You can see he has
things tied to his beard & around his neck too.

Detail can be seen LARGE On Black

Andaman Sunset 2

The Sun sets over the Andaman Sea as seen from Hat Karon in Phuket Thailand.

This is another shot of the same Sunset as the earlier image (26th April 2007). The couple are still there under the tree!

Elephant Statue In Hat Karon Thailand

The place where we stayed in Karon had numerous statues depicting
history, myths & legends etc. Most of them were in "frog ponds"
like this.

This elephant & kids was charming. It also had a great texture!

This is a 3exposure hand-held HDR

As usual, it looks best LARGE On Black

Andaman Sunset

I have been in Phuket, Thailand for a couple of days. I managed to
capture a most magnificent Sunset over the Andaman Sea, at Hat Karon

I set my tripod up at a great vantage point. A couple walking along the beach stopped transfixed by the view!

Blowing its Top!

The Dawn glow lights up a distant tropical storm that has had its top blown off. This is seen to the East of Singapore.

Lotus Flower About to Burst Open

A lotus flower is about to open, after rain in Singapore's Bishan Park.

These plants are in the "turtle pond". I like this shot because of the raindrops pooling on the leaves. They look like gems!

The Venerable Hong Choon Memorial Hall

This is the back of the big building that you see in my photos of the Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery. Here is an example.

The imposing size of this building is hard capture...

This is a 3 exposure HDR. The wind was blowing the trees around, which shows in the leaves!

The end of the Bridge - A Fountain!

What is at the end of the Gillman Footbridge? This gem!

The colours of the moss and stones are wonderful! This is the entrance to "Little Bali"

Gillman Bridge 3

You've seen it from the side, now here's a view of crossing the footbridge towards "Little Bali".

The building on the left is the one of the old British barracks, and has "1932" over one door. Look here for an earlier shot of that building.

Gillman Village Bridge

A view if one end of the foot bridge to Gillman Village in Singapore. The area was originally known as the Gillman Barracks.

At this place, in 1942 One Hundred & Twenty Nine Allied solders
held off a whole Japanese Division right up until the Allied surrender!
Hard to believe when looking at this lush setting now 65 years later! (reference)

Bougainvillea Flower

This Bougainvillea's vine with the flowers (the flowers are tiny, so
the prominent part here are really "bracts") caught my eye. The sun
shinning through made a beautiful colour.

The sky was very bright & this image was taken looking straight up.

It is an LDR processed from a single RAW image.

Changeable Lizard

I saw this guy sunning himself on a road & he kept running away
from me. He ran under a fence and thought I couldn't see him. This is
highly zoomed. He was changing colour when I took this shot, to hide in
the grass, and standing quite still

This is a 3 exposure hand held HDR.

Caterpillar Castle

OK, I know it is a Millipede not a Caterpillar, but "Millipede Mansion" just didn't sound as cute!.

This little guy (and friends) was running around on the cut off stump of a branch of a tree.

Qing Ming From the Roof

Another image from the expedition to the roof of the apartment building.

Here you can see the  important Buddhist Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery complex & columbarium. The green area behind that is Bishan Park.

As this was taken during the Qingming (Tomb Sweeping) festival, the plumes of smoke are from the burning of offerings to the departed

Tropical Storm From the Roof

The expedition to the roof of a 35 story apartment building in
Singapore's heartlands resulted in some nice images. The light was bad,
however, as the second tropical storm for the day rolled in. I was not
brave enough to try to photograph the lightening!

Here is a part of the storm.

To give this some scale, the hills in the distance are, in fact, in Malaysia. Those with a keen eye may be able to see the Straights of Johor in there too.

This unusual view of a Singapore HDB (Housing) block was taken from the roof of a nearby apartment building. - This is a straightened image, as per a suggestion on the first uploaded version of this image to Flickr

Singapore's HDB's are always brightly coloured.

This is a 3 Exp hand held HDR, holding the camera over the edge! (so there is some slight misalignment)

Singapore's Turf City

What do you do with an abandoned Racetrack? In Singapore, you put shops in the bottom of the grandstand & car park, and call it "Turf City"!

This is a 3 exposure hand held HDR. The Grandstand itself is slowly deteriorating in the Equatorial weather.

A skater goes through her routine for the judges at the Singapore National Ice Skating Championships. There is something about Figure skating on the Equator!

This is one shot that I thought was nice enough to share
